The North Head Lighthouse is one of Bowen’s iconic landmarks and it is the Bowen Independent’s mission to restore it so it’s around for years to come.
Built in 1866, the lighthouse has been slowly deteriorating since it was turned off in the mid-1980s, when a light was put on Sinclair Head, Stone Island, to suit the then new tugs.
Helipower provided aerial lifting services to delicately remove the lighthouse dome for restoration. Scaffolding and materials were also lifted in place to assist restoration efforts. Once restored, the lighthouse dome was lifted with precision back in place.
